September brought the first major donation to the Ringers as opposed to the PCC. We were lucky enough to be awarded £1,000 by the Cornwall Community Foundation BBC Radio Cornwall Appeal. This was to go towards the cost of a new set of bell ropes. A further major grant of £2,500 was made to the PCC by the Duke of Cornwall's Benevolent Fund which is administered by the Cornwall Historic Churches Trust.
So we got to the point where we could place the contract and it was duly awarded to John Taylor & Co of Loughborough. We really were on the way, funds were still needed but they were for the extras - sorting out the rope guide, casting lettering into the new headstocks, buying new ropes and muffles, buying materials for repainting the bell frame, involving local schools and the community and last but not least replacing one of the Ellacombe chiming hammers.
