We are excited to announce the first known performance of bluegrass ever to take place in St Andrew’s Church, Calstock. On Saturday 6th April, at 8 pm we will proudly present “The Kit Hillbillies” - local lads with a worldwide take on music.
The Kit Hillbillies came together a decade ago, initially as the house band at the Tamar Inn’s open mic night. They specialise in rollicking bluegrass & old-timey, good-timey acoustic roots songs.
Their music has been described as the sound of Woody Guthrie chasing Earl Scruggs in a stolen hay lorry.
A simpler summary came from the Guardian journalist Tim Dowling, who often writes about music: "The Kit Hillbillies: Excellent. See them soon."
Instrumental tasting notes: Banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, double bass. Vigorous, expressive & unvarnished, with a crisp percussive finish. Think Betty Stogs rather than Harvey's Bristol Cream.
